The aim of this study is to compare the different endometrial histopathologies among cases from geriatric and reproductive age group (15-49 age) admitted to Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Osmangazi University School of Medicine. Between January 1999-December 2003, 94 geriatric women and 200 randomly allocated reproductive age group cases were compared, on the basis of endometrial histopathological findings obtained from the archieves of Pathology Department. Percentage of endometrial pathology was higher among geriatric group (p<0.05). No significant differences was present among two groups in terms of frequency of endometril hyperplasias (p=0.43). Geriatric cases had higher percentages of endometrial polyp (p=0.02) but lower percentages (p=0.03) in term of chronic endometritis, compared to those of reproductive age group. Hormonal endometrial changes were more relevant in reproductive age group(p=0.02), despite low frequency of atrophic endometrial changes (p=0.04) In conclusion, in term of the probability of high frequency of endometrial pathologies, necessary work-up should be contemplated in addition to proper clinical evaluation among geriatric cases. In those age group, due to higer endometrial cancer prevalence, endometrium should be monitorized by ultrasonography and endometrial biopsy. Those endometrial histopathologies observed should be kept in mind during clinical evaluation of geriatric women. Keywords : Geriatrics, Reproductive age, Endometrium, Pathology
