MANAGEMENT OF AORTIC VALVE DISEASE IN ELDERLY

Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kardiyoloji Anabilim Dalı, İZMİR The aortic valve disease in the elderly, in terms of etiology and pathophysiology and treatment methods which can be applied shows significant differences. Valvular aortic stenosis in elderly patients is usually due to stiffening, scarring, and calcification of the aortic valve leaflets and the frequency of aortic stenosis increases with age. The vast majority of these patients have aortic stenosis or combined aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation and pure regurgitation is uncommon. In this article, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical symptoms and findings and existing treatment methods in elderly patients with aortic valve disease were reviewed.
